Livermore combines three vegetation problems in one jurisdiction: large annual grasslands that cure into standing fuel by early summer, an agricultural edge where vineyards meet unmanaged ground, and a wildland-urban interface that runs along the southern and eastern hills.
Grassland-dominated ground responds well to timed grazing. An early pass suppresses seed set; a later pass removes cured standing fuel ahead of peak fire weather. Both are ordinary work for a herd and awkward work for equipment once the slope increases toward Del Valle, Sycamore Grove, and the ridgelines east of town.
Vineyard-adjacent properties in the Livermore Valley have a second constraint: grazing near planted blocks is scheduled around dormancy, vine protection, and irrigation exposure. That scoping happens before mobilization, not after.
